MORE ABOUT US

MK are the initials of Martine Kalaw, Founder and Executive Director of SAD. Martine founded SAD as a result of her seven year battle with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), formerly known as Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), toward securing a country - a place to call home - and U.S. citizenship.  She  endured hardship and opposition within the New York immigration court system. Martine has written about her experience of being stateless, undocumented, and without a country. Martine’s book, Illegal Among Us: A Stateless Woman’s Quest for Citizenship, was published by Sunbury Press in 2018 (ISBN: 97816220060889).
